I love the Funko Pop TV Mr. Rogers Collectible Figure. It’s really cute, and it comes in a nice box that I can keep in. The figure is very sturdy and well-made, so I don’t have to worry about it falling over or having parts break off and get lost. The detail is excellent – it’s all painted on and not just a plastic mold of his face, which you can often see in other Funko Pop figures.

Funko POP! is a stylized vinyl collectible figure line originally created by the Japanese company Kaiyodo. The Funko company was then founded in 1998 and bought the rights to the name. The figures have since become a very popular and highly collectible product, with over 1000 different figures available as of 2014.
The figures are often licensed properties from movies, video games, comics, sports, and more recently, television shows. Many of the licenses that Funko currently holds have been re-released through the ReAction line of figures which were first released in 2013. Some of these licenses include The Dark Knight Trilogy, Back to the Future Trilogy, Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney Classics, and more. Funko also releases many “common” or “universal” funko pop figures that are not tied to any one particular license but are generally a part of their Pop! Vinyl collection. These include items such as zombies and other monsters, animals, and other miscellaneous characters. Funko’s Pop! Vinyl can be purchased at entertainment stores such as Toys R Us and Target as well as comic book shops such as Hot Topic. They can also be purchased online through Amazon or eBay.
“I’m a real person,” he said. That’s how he wanted to be seen, as a regular guy. A regular guy who was just like you, only better.
But Rogers was not like you. He was an ordained minister and a Ph.D., even if he had given up his ministry to become a children’s TV host. He was the son of a government agent and an author of Christian faith books, though he claimed to have left the Presbyterian church in his 20s because it tried to “squeeze the last drop of blood out of me.” His show, which ran on PBS from 1968 to 2001 (and has been continuously rerun since then), was one of the most-watched series in public television history.

It’s a bit tricky to explain the appeal of Mr. Rogers. He was a man of deep faith and high moral seriousness, but he wasn’t preachy or self-righteous. He didn’t just pat kids on the head and send them on their way. He seemed to truly listen and was interested in what every child had to say. (His TV shows were full of long pauses.)
He was also as much fun as an adult as he was as a kid, which is unusual. His show was a refuge from the world, at a time when many children were looking for one; it offered an escape from the endless adolescence that afflicts American childhood, the banality of toy commercials and Barney & Friends, and the incessant, empty noise of video games. But he also spoke directly to children about very grownup things: death and war and nuclear weapons.
In other words, Mr. Rogers was not some kind of saintly alien; he was just what everyone wished they could be when they grow up – kind, patient, curious, joyful. He made the world a better place by simply being himself.
The time he took to explain things is something I remember most about Mr. Rogers. I’m sure there are others who can say the same thing, and you can find a quick compilation of his segments on Youtube, to see what I mean.
